Feb 1, 2020 · In photovoltaic system connected to the grid, the main goal is to control the power that the inverter injects into the grid from the energy provided by the photovoltaic generator.
The calculated power density is equal to 1 kW/liter. Each PV panel or battery connected to the micro inverter reference design can lead to different voltage across the inputs. The stages control input voltage and current and can implement a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm for each PV panel.
The PV panel is a non-linear DC source; an inverter must feed current into the grid, and a maximum power tracking algorithm must maximize power from the panel. Therefore the key challenge in any PV inverter system design is to feed a clean current into the grid while maintaining the maximum power point of the panel.
This microinverter has been designed to connect to any PV module having a power rating of approxi-mately 250 watts, with an input voltage range of 25 VDC to 45 VDC, and a maximum open circuit voltage of ~55V. block diagram of the grid-connected Solar Microinverter Reference Design is shown in Figure 5.
A dedicated micro-inverter for each PV panel leads to enhanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT), . However, this topology faces the challenges of reducing unit cost as power converter units are installed on the backside of every single panel. Micro-inverter also requires more effort on maintenance and replacement.
The solar microinverter is designed to support 215W out-put power at nominal input voltages (25 VDC-45 VDC). To ensure that the microinverter does not operate at an output power greater than 215W, a software clamp on the maximum allowable output current has been designed, based on the measured peak AC voltage.
The single-phase PV based grid-tied micro-inverter system is shown in Fig. 1. It consists of two power processing stages. The dc-dc stage comprises an isolated boost dc-dc converter topology which produces a dc-link voltage for the VSI. This converter not only extracts the maximum power from the PV panel but also step-up the low input voltage.
