Isochoric as well as isobaric compressed air storage systems are ideal for both underground or above storage systems. The compressed air storages built above the ground are designed from steel. These types of storage systems can be installed everywhere, and they also tend to produce a higher energy density.
The main exergy storage system is the high-grade thermal energy storage. The reset of the air is kept in the low-grade thermal energy storage, which is between points 8 and 9. This stage is carried out to produce pressurized air at ambient temperature captured at point 9. The air is then stored in high-pressure storage (HPS).
There are several options for underground compressed air energy storage systems. A cavity underground, capable of sustaining the required pressure as well as being airtight can be utilised for this energy storage application.
