In the design of the “photovoltaic + energy storage” system construction scheme studied, photovoltaic power generation system and energy storage system cooperate with each other to complete grid-connected power generation.
This study builds a 50 MW “PV + energy storage” power generation system based on PVsyst software. A detailed design scheme of the system architecture and energy storage capacity is proposed, which is applied to the design and optimization of the electrochemical energy storage system of photovoltaic power station.
The electrochemical energy storage system uses lithium batteries with high cost performance, which can simultaneously play two key roles in balancing the energy input system and the adjustment of the system output power, and is a key link in the stable operation of the “photovoltaic + energy storage” power station (see Fig. 2). Fig. 1.
The battery design of the electrochemical energy storage system adopts 3.2 V/220Ah lithium-ion battery. The system is arranged by 18 battery cells in series and 90 battery cells in parallel, with a total number of 1620 cells.
The GravityLineTM storage system consists of modular 5 MW tracks, and are scalable from 5 MW to 1 GW of power, megawatt-hours to gigawatt-hours of energy storage, and 15 mins to 10 h of storage duration depending the system design. ARES is currently building a 50 MW project for ancillary services in Nevada US.
