Abstract: A new technology, the Supercapacitor, has emerged with the potential to enable major advances in energy storage. Supercapacitors are governed by the same fundamental equations as conventional capacitors, but utilize higher surface area electrodes and thinner dielectrics to achieve greater capacitances.
Supercapacitors are energy storage devices with very high capacity and a low internal resistance. In a supercapacitor, the electrical energy is stored in an electrolytic double-layer. Therefore such energy storage devices are generally called electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLC).
4.1. Energy storage 4.1.1. Renewable energy integration (solar) The intermittent nature of renewable energy sources like solar poses significant challenges to grid stability. With their exceptional power density and rapid charge-discharge capabilities, supercapacitors offer a promising solution to address these issues.
Thus, supercapacitors may emerge as the solution for many application-specific power systems. Especially, there has been great interest in developing supercapacitors for electric vehicle hybrid power systems, pulse power applications, as well as back-up and emergency power supplies.
Scientists and manufacturers recently proposed the supercapacitor (SC) as an alternating or hybrid storage device. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of SC applications and their developments. Accordingly, a detailed literature review was first carried out. The historical results of SCs are revealed in this paper.
