Aug 11, 2023 · Saint John Energy is embarking on a second battery energy storage project with Tesla Megapacks, this time at a new wind farm project
Before this year is over, the first large-scale wind farm in our region's history will be completed and operational. Natural Forces is constructing the Burchill Wind Energy Project at a site in Lorneville. It will supply Saint John Energy with enough electricity to power roughly 15 per cent of the city.
Saint John Energy is an electrical utility that resells power purchased from the provincial electrical utility, NB Power. Saint John Energy owns 12 substations and services more than 36,000 local New Brunswick customers with annual energy sales of 950 GWh, and our team was engaged to develop a smart grid strategy roadmap.
Saint John Energy decided to add a battery storage site at Burchill partly due to the success the company has seen with their first Megapack project. Installed in 2020, the company was expecting to see large savings, and the Megapacks delivered just that, with Saint John Energy saving over $109,000 in the first year of operation.
Now that the world's focus is shifting to renewable energy, Saint Johners are capitalizing on the value of being located in a place where the natural energies of wind and tide converge. Before this year is over, the first large-scale wind farm in our region's history will be completed and operational.
The energy storage system generating-side contribution is to enhance the wind plant's grid-friendly order to transport wind power in ways that can be operated such as traditional power stations. It must also be operated to make the best use of the restricted transmission rate. 3.2.2. ESS to assist system frequency regulation
Overall, the deployment of energy storage systems represents a promising solution to enhance wind power integration in modern power systems and drive the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape. 4. Regulations and incentives This century's top concern now is global warming.
