The developing trends of Chinese offshore wind power are large-scale turbines, deep-water construction and intelligent management. New technologies for offshore wind power generation are to be further studied.
Offshore wind power generation has gained continuous attention and has been developed rapidly in China, because of its huge potential to drive the energy transition process. This paper investigates the domestic progress of offshore wind in the past decade and discusses the future development trend.
Global installed wind generation capacity – both onshore and offshore – has increased by a factor of 98 in the past two decades, jumping from 7.5 GW in 1997 to 1 131 GW by 2024 according to IRENA's data. Wind energy added 113 GW of new capacity in 2024 alone, growing by 11.1% compared to the previous year.
The developing trends of offshore wind power generation can be summarized as the tendency towards large-scale turbines, offshore wind farm construction in deep waters and intelligent management system of O&M.
